Good practice guide for managing timber transport

The Timber Transport Forum of the UK has updated their log transport management good practice guide.

The concise document is titled “Managing Timber Transport: Good Practice Guide”. The guide sets the scene for resolving log transport challenges encountered by local authority road managers, log transport managers, forest owners and agents. The following sections are briefly covered:

  • Transporting timber
  • The partnership approach
  • Good practice
  • Agreed route maps
  • Responsibilities of each stakeholder
  • Traffic management
  • Road management
  • Community relations
  • Environmental management
  • Timber haulier training

The implementation of these type of guidelines goes some way to improving the often negative perception that the general public has of log transport around the world. Source www.timbertransportforum.org.uk
