Cat D3, D4 and D5 dozers receive improvements

These include reduced engine emissions and productivity enhancements.

The engines of the new Cat D3K2, D4K2, D5K2 dozers meet Tier 4 Final and Stage IV emission standards. The new models have 60, 69 and 78 kW (80, 92, and 104 hp) engines respectively. They all make use of Cat C4.4 ACERT engines. Automatic traction control is new to the K2 models, which reduces track slippage when the machine is under load. This feature does not require operator interaction, but automatically adjusts machine operating parameters to keep the machine moving steadily throughout the cut. This reduces the operators need to continually adjust the blade to prevent stalling. The end result is more consistent grades, reduced operator fatigue and improved undercarriage life.

Also new to the K2 machines are the standard Slope Indicate and Slope Assist features. The Slope Indicate displays the dozers cross-slope direction and its main-fall direction, reducing the amount of guesswork and increasing operator confidence. Slope Assist helps achieve the desired main-fall by automatically maintaining pre-established blade angles. Constant grades can be more quickly obtained, fill materials can be conserved and less-experienced operators can be more productive. The system is also part of the Cat AccuGrade Ready attachment, allowing the system to be easily upgraded to 3D capability. Source: www.cat.com
