Hancock Forest Management provides a guideline for cable-assist logging operarions.

The interim report, titled “Interim best practice guideline: cable assisted steep slope harvesting”, was produced in 2016. It gives an overview of the cable-assist logging operations and the interventions required to ensure safety. It broadly covers the following:

  • The harvesting system components
  • Safe work procedures
  • Machines and materials: Specific focus area include the base machine, winches, wire ropes and rigging, and anchor points.
  • Other safety features
  • Machine maintenance inspection and operation
  • Stakeholders
  • Hazard identification and risk management controls. Aspects such as machine stability, ground conditions, weather, existing debris and vegetation, worker isolation, mechanical factors and environmental impact.
