Road construction products - New D6N bulldozer from Cat

A range of improvements to the popular D6N track-type tractor have been made.

The Cat C6.6 ACERT Tier 4 / Stage IIIB engine is used. The 112 kW (150 hp) engine has features such as an auto engine idle shutdown timer, auto engine speed control, and an on-demand viscous clutch for the cooling fan. This results in more efficient operation of the engine, reducing fuel consumption. Additionally, eco-modes can be activated in forward or forward/reverse settings to reduce fuel consumption further.

The D6N torque convertor works with the differential steering to maintain full power to both tracks when turning; and also allows a larger blade load capacity, better power management and improved speed control when making turns or negotiating grades.

Operator ergonomics has not been ignored. One of the most important features is a differential steering controller. The steering tiller places all transmission functions in one hand of the operator, allowing easy selection of forward-neutral-reverse functions, speed recall and ground speed adjustment. Ground speed is controlled using a thumb roller-wheel incorporated into the steering controller. Many other ergonomic improvements have also been made, including electro-hydraulic controls and an improved dashboard display.

A new C-frame and blade design enables easier pitch adjustment to allow the dozer to match different applications, soil types and improve productivity. The operating weight of the machine is 16,507 to 18,906 kg (36,400 to 39,895 lbs) with the semi-universal (SU) and variable pitch angle tilt (VPAT) blades. The dozer is grade control ready, which allows easy installation of an AccuGrade machine control and guidance system. Forestry protection packages are also available. Source: www.cat.com
