New 20 tonne forwarder from Komatsu Forest

Komatsu has introduced the 895, and have their sights set on dominance in the 20 tonne forwarder market.

Komatsu have focussed on robustness and performance. The shape of the chassis frame has been improved, high-tensile steel is used on the underside of the frame, and the bogies portal design allows excellent ground clearance for obstacles. A boat-shaper underside enables the forwarder to glide over obstacles, and the front blade can be raised higher to pass over obstacles. A new modular frame design allows the 895 to be assembled with four different frame lengths for different client needs.

The new E3 Power engine is used in the 895. The new transmission adapts to the load, slopes and obstacles by automatically adjusting the traction and providing high torque at low engine speeds. The transmission is able to increase traction during difficult underfoot conditions or if speed drops, such as on steep slopes. The 895 can negotiate steep slopes and climb over obstacles with ease compared to previous generation hydrostatic transmission systems.

The 895 has 28.5 inch wheels, which are larger than any other forwarder on the market. This reduces the risk of the rims spinning inside the tyres, allowing for better traction. It also has a new crane, the large 165F, which delivers high lifting and slewing torque. The crane has a new, more durable slewing motor. ProTec hosing is fitted as standard. The 895 has a new bunk that is available in different configurations. The bunk can be narrow or wide, LoadFlex with or without scales, and have separating supports for easier sorting. An interesting new bunk gate (FlexGate), flexes out of the way when making contact with the crane, which protects both the crane and the gate, and allows for better visibility for the operator. The 895 is also fitted with a new cab filled with features and improvements. The key specifications are included in the table below.
