Logging information - Tooth and disk systems for feller bunchers

Quadco provides a brochure for indicating the different disks and teeth in their product line-up.

The booklet helps the user decide on which tooth tip, tooth holder and saw disk to select according to the conditions under which they are used. Four different tip types are described:

  • Regular carbide tip – a straight tip tooth for tough conditions
  • Super carbide tip – it has a 60% thicker carbide tip for extended life, as well as a more aggressive cutting angle, resulting in higher production and lower fuel consumption.
  • Concave steel heat treated tip – the concave profile is for very easy operating conditions. It is a lower cost tip where impacts are almost non-existent.
  • Beaver steel heat-treated tip – it has straight edges, making it more durable than the Concave. It also keeps a better cutting edge for longer. The tips can be resharpened on the blade with a disk grinder.

Quadco makes use of a reversible tooth holder which is fully symmetrical to allow the tooth to be mounted on either side. This doubles the life of the holder. They also provide the option of a one or two-piece tooth. With the two-piece models, it is possible to change only the cutter instead of the complete tooth. A tooth holder guide helps indicate which tooth holder is best suited to which type of application. The range of saw disks is also described. The selection is based on factors such as the nature of expected impacts, whether heavy duty conditions are encountered during harvesting, weight saving objectives, abrasive conditions, torque requirements, narrow or wider saw kerf requirements, accumulation requirements and aerodynamic properties.
