Log transport - Environmental footprint calculator from Volvo trucks

Examine the resources used and the emissions and waste produced from a fleet of trucks.

If you own, or plan on owning a Volvo truck, a tool can be accessed that assists with the environmental footprint calculations. Users of other truck brands will also find the information interesting. This tool considers truck model, emission level (which Stage engine is being used), engine model, fuel type (including biofuels), fleet size and usage information (distance travelled, lifetime distance and fuel consumption). Each section provides relevant background information which guides the user by providing guidelines.

The results are presented at two levels. The first provides an overview of the environmental footprint size and the carbon and water used in the manufacturing and operating of the truck. Certain actions that could be taken to reduce this footprint are highlighted. The second level is more detailed, and presents the resources (materials, water and energy) used to build and operate the truck, and the emissions (CO2, NMVOC and NOx) and waste (total and hazardous) produced. The results can be presented for the total truck lifecycle, only production, only usage, or only end of life of the truck or fleet. The results can then be compared with up to three other models and exported to Excel.

The site is certainly worth a visit from an educational point of view as well.
