The Log Max 3000T was designed to be a lighter and more compact head.
To achieve this, the frame and saw box geometry was redesigned to make it not only lighter and slimmer but also perform better. The head can be used on harvesters in the 10 to 14 ton class working in thinning. The 3000T weighs 623 kg (1,373 lb), making it suitable for long reach booms. It is equipped with the first-generation Log Max 218 and 318 True-Cut saw units, which feature improved hydraulic performance and can cut trees of up to 56 cm (22 in) diameter. The most important component of the True-Cut system is the intelligent saw motor which has integrated valve solutions for saw motor speed and saw bar control. By continuously sensing the motor speed and adjusting the saw bar feed rate accordingly, the True-Cut maintains an almost constant chain speed of 40 m/s (131 ft/s) throughout the cutting cycle. This is claimed to yield very good cutting performances, with True-Cut up to 35 % faster than conventional saw units.
By having the valve for motor speed control inside the motor, it is able to react instantly to changes in motor speed and almost eliminate any over-revving. This reduces the stress on the motor and provides a safer work environment by reducing the risk of chain shot. The True-Cut saw units also have a longer stroke cylinder and a higher resolution cutting control sensor. This enables more precise control of the saw bar and maximizing cutting performance and colour marking precision. The True-Cut is set at the factory and should not need any further setting changes in the field.
The new frame geometry improves length and diameter measuring. The upper part of the frame has been brought forward to prevent bark from clogging in the measuring wheel hole. The saw box geometry for positioning of the saw and cylinder allows for better control over the sawing cycle and performs a continuous and accurate cut in less time.
