Valmet: New Forwarder Features
These include features to handle steeper terrain.

The most important new features are as follows:

  1. A new crane tilt function on the Valmet 860.4 forwarder enables it to operate on steeper terrain. This enables the slewing motor to rotate the crane rather than lift it. The crane pillar can be tilted backwards at a 5 to 15 degree angle. The additional power enables the grapple to hold more timber and log stacks can be more easily reached, even if they are behind a tree. The machine also does not need to be moved as much to reach the log stacks.
  2. A rear-view camera is now standard on all forwarders sold in the EU.
  3. A new powerful computer (PC X20) is now standard on all new forwarders. It has a wireless keyboard that can be safely stowed away.
  4. The Maxiforwarder 4.8 software suite computer system, with machine status and production reports as an option.
  5. Platforms for the ladders are fitted over the left front wheel and the hydraulic tank, which makes easier entry, exit and maintenance work
  6. Maxi-N, which is a new and easy to use GIS based navigation programme for all forwarders.
