Tigercat Release Their New 25 Tonne Forwarder

The 1085B severe duty forwarder is designed to handle virtually all conditions.

Tigercat indicate that the 1085B is the only 25 tonne forwarder offered worldwide by a major logging machine manufacturer. It has been designed for heavy duty applications such as long distance forwarding and steep slopes. It is equipped with the bogie axles that have proven themselves in six-wheeled skidders operating in severe conditions. The forwarder features Tigercats WideRange transmission, allowing top speeds of 7 km/hr (4.6 mph), and has sufficient tractive effort to carry a 20 tonne (22 ton) load on slopes of 60%.

As indicated in the April 2 edition of Logging-on, the 1085B utilises Tigercats new low-wide bunk system combined with the hooked crane for improved reliability and loading times. By angling the load down toward the front and reducing the gate height, the low-wide bunk reduces the chance of contact with the crane and provides maximum load capacity without the need for a vertical slider. The new bunk system expands up to 7.5 m2 (81 ft2). The 1085B features Tigercats hooked F195T85 crane and the Tigercat FG43 grapple, with a larger FG53 grapple as an option. Tigercat state that the new crane and grapple have increased production by more than 30% over competitive machines in certain applications. The 1085B centre section is based on Tigercat skidder designs, which allows long life due to the use of pre-loaded, tapered roller bearings in the articulation and oscillation joints. Other features include a large and comfortable cab with good ergonomics and vision for the operator. Sound levels have been reduced to less than 66 dB at full 2,200 rpm engine speed. The lighting, operator controls and interface and climate control system have also been designed for high productivity and reduced operator fatigue during long shifts.
