The S23C can crosscut, delimb and split the tree into firewood directly after felling.

The saw can be mounted in the place of the loading grapple of a tractor or excavator and requires no extra hydraulics or electricity. The head does not use feed rollers, but instead has a stroke action to delimb trees. The operation is controlled by pressure controlled valves. A grapple-close button closes grippers onto the tree. Pressure rises and pressure-controlled valves release oil flow to the delimbing stroke cylinder. To cross-cut the tree, the grapple-close button is pressed which guides oil to the cutting unit. The S23C delimbs trees at 0.5 m (1.64 ft) per stroke.

The S23C remains in the upright position due to its centre of gravity. When a tree is grabbed for felling; pressure rises and the delimbing head begins to move. The delimbing head then hits the tilt body and locks firmly against it. Because the tree remains upright after the felling cut, the desired felling direction can be chosen. The grapple-open button is then pressed and the delimbing head reverses and is no longer locked in the upright position. The weight of the tree tilts the head into the delimbing position. When the tree is dropped, the head returns to the upright position.

The S23C weighs only 240 kg (529 lb) and requires 40 l (8.8 gal) per minute of oil flow. It can be fitted onto 5 to 8 ton excavators and can have an extension boom package for an additional 1.5 m of reach (4.9 ft).
