In this first issue of May, Logging-on begins by examining the results of a recent study that quantified the safety and productivity advantages of platooning in the logistics industry. The results show clearly that costs can be reduced, and safety improved, with no additional stress to the driver. Still looking at the future, we get an update on the technologically advanced new logging machine factory that Komatsu Forest will be constructing in Umea, Sweden. We examine the new John Deere backhoe attachments and the new Cat vegetation management attachments for compact tracked loader machines. This greatly improves the flexibility and versatility of these machines, which is always of interest to the forestry industry, where having multiple specialised machines on road maintenance or construction sites is not always possible. Finally, we look at a new product offering from Hiab that permits much easier crane attachment to new log trucks.
